Nottingham High School
‘Ordinary boys achieving extraordinary things’
Founded in 1513, Nottingham High School is an independent school for boys aged 5-18.
The school has an excellent reputation for both high academic achievements and the high standards gained in the wide range of extra curricular activities. Although proud of its history and tradition, the school has a strong sense of purpose for the future.
Gemini was appointed in 2004 to handle media relations for Nottingham High School and Nottingham High Junior School. We now also handle the PR for the newly acquired infant school, Lovell House.
Brief
Gemini’s brief consists of targeting regional print, broadcast and online media, national education media and, when appropriate, national media to;
- promote Nottingham High School as a centre of educational excellence for boys
- increase awareness of the school’s notable achievements in extra curricular activities and sport
- increase awareness of other positive attributes of the school
- help to attract prospective students to both the senior and junior schools
- change the ‘stuffy’ image associated with many independent schools
- raise the profile of both the Junior and Senior school head teachers
- counteract any negative publicity, if the need should ever arise
- respond to requests from the media for information.
Meeting the Brief
In order to meet the brief, our regular activities include;
- proactively seeking opportunities for Nottingham High School to comment in the media
- liaising with the school’s marketing department and relevant teachers to identify PR stories such as school events, academic and sporting achievements and staff news
- collating information and drafting press releases and contributions to features
- identifying photo opportunities and organising photo calls
- meeting with members of the regional media to discuss ideas and opportunities
- meeting school staff on a monthly basis and tracking coverage
- liaising with the media on any sensitive issues
- handling media liaison during exam results season to ensure maximum positive coverage for the school.
We regularly achieve high volumes of quality coverage for Nottingham High School in their target media. During the academic year 2006-07 we recorded over £86,000 worth of print coverage for the school, not including several radio and TV pieces.
